CODE OF CONDUCT

What We Stand For. What We Require.

To protect the dignity and wellbeing of all artisans and workers in our supply chain, Caravan Closet upholds a strict Code of Conduct across Nepal, India, Thailand, and China.

NO INVOLUNTARY LABOR

Every worker’s presence must be voluntary.
We strictly prohibit:

  • Forced or bonded labor
  • Prison labor
  • Indentured labor
  • Labor linked to trafficking or coercion

All workers are free to leave employment at any time.

NO CHILD LABOR

Caravan Closet does not employ children under the age of 16, or below the legally required school attendance age—whichever is higher.
All regional and national youth employment laws must be followed by our partners.

FAIR WORK HOURS & COMPENSATION

We believe every worker deserves ethical compensation and manageable hours.

  • Wages and benefits must meet or exceed all local legal requirements
  • A standard work week cannot exceed 40 hours over 5 days
  • All overtime is voluntaryand paid at legally mandated premium rates
  • No hidden fees, deposits, or training deductions are allowed
  • Workers must receive timely pay and clear, understandable wage statements

ZERO TOLERANCE FOR HARASSMENT, ABUSE, OR DISCRIMINATION

Respect is non-negotiable.

All workplaces must be free from:

  • Harassment or intimidation
  • Threats, abuse, or retaliation
  • Discrimination of any kind

Including discrimination based on race, color, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, political opinion, social status, pregnancy, marital status, or any factor unrelated to job performance.

HEALTH & SAFETY STANDARDS

Every facility must ensure:

  • Clean, safe, hazard-free working conditions
  • Proper ventilation and sanitation
  • Safe machinery and equipment
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Compliance with all local and national safety regulations

Worker wellbeing comes first, everywhere we operate.

ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

We are committed to minimizing environmental impact throughout Nepal, India, Thailand, and China.

Our partners must:

  • Use low-impact, non-toxic dyeswithout heavy metals or harmful chemicals
  • Purify all wastewater from dyeing and washing before releasing it into any system
  • Reduce, recycle, or upcycle fabric waste whenever possible
  • Follow all applicable environmental regulations
  • Support sustainable sourcing and cleaner production methods

Caravan Closet consistently evaluates and sets new sustainability goals each year.

LEGAL & ETHICAL COMPLIANCE

All partnering facilities must comply with:

  • National and local labor laws
  • International labor standards
  • Environmental regulations
  • Voluntary ethical and industry certifications

We partner only with factories and workshops that demonstrate transparency, responsibility, and ethical integrity.
